Double Hammock: Wrapping Tutorial

Double Hammock: Wrapping Tutorial

This is our tutorial for tying a double hammock back carry. Here’s a bit of information about the carry first.

  • The double hammock is a multi layered back carry with a chest pass and 2 shoulder passes.
  • It is suitable for babies who are starting to support their own weight. We don’t recommend it for very young babies.
  • The double hammock requires a long wrap, either base size or longer. You’ll probably need at least a size 6 wrap.
  • It offers lots of support, great for if you need to carry for a long time or are carrying a heavy child.
  • There are lots of ways that you can adapt this carry, either to work with a shorter wrap or to add a fancy finish.
  • Whilst it is one oft he most popular carries out there, getting the tightening right for this carry can take time to learn. There are different techniques that different people favour. It is worth trying a few to see what works for you.

In this video Nelly shows you the basic Double Hammock carry and then 5 different fancy ways to finish off this carry:

  • Tibetan Knotless,
  • Freshwater,
  • Saltwater,
  • Ring/Star finish (using a metal sling ring)
  • Pond (one shouldered)

Belen demonstrates how she gets a comfortable chest pass with her toddler.

A video of ‘real life wrapping’ using the double hammock. Toddlers are often a bit fussy about being wrapped because it can signify home/ nap time (or just takes them away from whatever mischief they hoped to be involved with)

If you like the style of this carry then the Semi Double Hammock is similar but uses a much shorter wrap.
